Phillips Goes Wire to Wire at Lucas Oil Speedway

Terry Phillips was among 50 cars signed in for Heartland Modified Tour Presented by Real Racing Wheels action Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. Phillips protected the bottom and rode the line to perfection to grab his second series win of the year.
“I just had to slow down,”said Terry Phillips when asked about his approach to running the bottom of the track. “I looked up there at the video board and could see him (Gabe Hodges) on me.”
Behind Phillips, Gabe Hodges tried everything he could to best the veteran. He was able to get to his door on a few occasions, but never any further. Hodges tried a variety of lines and mixed up his corner entry and exit trying to push for the lead. He settled for second at the VP Racing Fuels Checkers.
A night after cutting down a tire while leading, Tyler Wolff cruised in third behind the lead duo and finished there as well. Ryan Middaugh ran fourth and Paden Phillips was fifth.
Several early Midwest Sheet Metal cautions kept the race from gaining any early momentum. However, once the field settled in the course of the feature shifted in a good direction.
Vietti Marketing provided all of the mothers in attendance with free grandstand admission.
Next for the series will be a stop at JR and Kati Sartain's 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas, next Saturday night. A custom championship belt will be presented to the event's winner. Tyler Wolff leaves Lucas Oil Speedway with the points lead.
