DAIS ROLLS THE DICE ON MID-RACE RESTART TO CLAIM FENSKE MEMORIAL WIN
Friday, June 26th started out as another normal race day for Harley Dais but by the time he left Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, WI, he scored his biggest payday of his career winning $3,599 by winning the 7th Annual Karl Fenske Memorial.
The USRA Modified A-Main started with a pair of 95s on the front row as Keith Foss and Shaun Walski brought the field to green. Foss paced the field running the bottom groove for the first 15 laps with Walski, Dais, Jim Chisholm and Brandon Davis in tow but a mechanical failure to Jim Chisholm's Skyrocket Chassis on lap 15, made for a thrilling second half of the race.
On the insuing Delaware Double File Restart, the MB Custom Chassis of Shaun Walski chose the bottom moving Harley Dais to the top of the racetrack. What the top four drivers did not know is that top side was just coming into form. Josh Angst and Rodney Sanders were running in the middle of the pack as the Ace Auto Repair yellow flag flew but were just starting to makeup ground on the top five cars running the top side around the big 1/3 mile.
On the lap 15 restart Harley Dais realized very quickly that the top side was now the place to be. Dais would overtake Walski for second and by lap 19 would pass Keith Foss on the top setting sail to the $3,599 win. Brandon Davis made a charge on the high side as well but would have to settle for 2nd. Foss brought home 3rd and Joe Provo Racewear Hard Charger Rodney Sanders would bring home 4th from his 10th place starting postion.
