I-35 Speedway Race Recap 7-18-26

WINSTON, Mo. (July 18, 2026)—Carpenters Classics night brought an action-packed evening of racing on Saturday, July 18, highlighted by the USAC MRA non-wing sprint cars making their series debut at I-35 Speedway and delivering an impressive show.

The E-Mods opened feature racing, with Cameron Sample using the pole he earned by winning Heat 1 to hold off Heat 2 winner Garrett Stonum and claim his first feature victory of the year. Stonum, a three-time feature winner this season, will have to wait until next Saturday for another chance at win number four. Tony Layne finished third, followed by Aaron Jones and James Silkwood.

In USRA Tuners action, JR Curtis pulled away for his second I-35 win of the year and his first since April. Samuel Moore chased him to the finish but settled for second, while lone heat winner Brad Mick took third. Chris Lewis and Jeremy Sims completed the top five.

The night’s headline event followed: 25 laps of USAC MRA non-wing sprint car action. Jack Wagner worked the high side to control the late stages and held on through a green-white-checkered finish. Heat 3 winner Chase Howard pushed hard but finished second, with polesitter Bryson Smith third. Heat 1 winner Wyatt Burks settled for fourth, and Samuel Wagner rounded out the top five. Jake Kouba, who dominated Heat 2, was not as fortunate in the feature and finished 16th.

Hobby Stocks took the track next, and bad luck struck Heat 1 winner and polesitter Jakub Hisel, ending his night early. Trevor Hittle swept the night after winning Heat 2, earning back-to-back I-35 feature victories. Brad Chumbly charged from 12th to second, nearly going from worst to first, while Anthony Whitman finished third. Shaun Wirtz held on to fourth and a slim 21-point lead, with Blake Peeler in the No. 178 completing the top five.

Jake Richards put on a clinic to win his second B-Mod feature of the season at I-35. After also dominating Heat 2, Richards built a large lead before Adam Dunwoodie closed the gap late. Dunwoodie started deep in the field and charged to second. Chris Wright spent the night battling John Ross for third and held the spot, with Ross fourth and Heat 1 winner Chase Moulton fifth.

Tyler Cadwallader capped a nearly perfect weekend, winning a feature Friday night before sweeping the Stock Cars on Saturday. He dominated Heat 1 and then held off Heat 2 winner Bo Eads in the feature. Eads finished second, followed by Brad Derry, Chris Dishong, and Mike Miller.

Shadren Turner led the way in the lone A-Mod heat and appeared headed for his first I-35 feature win since October 2025 before mechanical issues ended the No. 56 machine’s run. After the restart, Houston Johnson, who had battled Turner hard in the opening laps, took command. A late caution tightened the race, and Brad Johnson threw everything he had into a turn-one slide-job attempt, but Houston powered away for his eighth win of the year. Brad Johnson finished second, followed by Tyler Grooms, Richard Layne, and Terry Van Trump.

Thank you to our drivers, officials, sponsors, crews, and fans for making each week possible. With only one July race night remaining, the summer season is moving quickly. Full results are available on our Facebook page and website, and we hope to see everyone next Saturday night!
