Weather Forces Cancellation of Northern Lights Modified Series Weekend
GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (August 13, 2026) — With precipitation already impacting the region and additional rain in the forecast throughout the weekend, officials with the USRA Kevko Racing Northern Lights Modified Series presented by Real Wheels have made the decision to cancel this weekend's scheduled events at Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minnesota, and Winneshiek Raceway in Decorah, Iowa.
The Northern Lights Modified Series was scheduled to visit Fairmont Raceway on Friday, August 14, before traveling to Winneshiek Raceway on Saturday, August 15.
With teams traveling from throughout the Upper Midwest to compete with the series, officials felt making the decision in advance was in the best interest of everyone involved rather than asking teams, fans and series partners to incur the expense of traveling with a significant possibility of the events ultimately being canceled at or near race time.
"This is never the decision we want to make, especially when we have two tracks that we were really looking forward to visiting this weekend," series director Erick Chesterman said.
"Unfortunately, both areas have already received precipitation, and with additional rain possible throughout Friday and into Saturday, we have to look at the bigger picture. Our teams travel a considerable distance to race with us, and there are significant costs involved not only for them, but also for our tracks, fans and partners. Rather than have everyone spend the money to travel and potentially have Mother Nature make the decision for us once we get there, we feel making the call early is the responsible thing to do."
Friday and Saturday's cancellations apply specifically to the Northern Lights Modified Series portions of the scheduled events.
As of Thursday afternoon, both Fairmont Raceway and Winneshiek Raceway still intend to attempt to hold their respective weekly racing programs. Each track will independently evaluate its facility, weather conditions and forecast before making a final determination regarding its weekly program.
Fans planning to attend either facility for weekly racing should continue to follow Fairmont Raceway and Winneshiek Raceway for updates. Final decisions regarding those programs are expected to be made by the individual tracks on Friday and/or their respective race days.
The cancellation is particularly disappointing as the weekend was set to play an important role in the closing stretch of the 2026 Northern Lights Modified Series championship. Friday would have marked the series' second appearance at Fairmont Raceway, while Saturday was scheduled as the tour's second trip of the season to Winneshiek Raceway.
With the weekend removed from the schedule, attention now turns to the North Star Nationals at Mississippi Thunder Speedway on September 11-12, which will close out the 2026 USRA Kevko Racing Northern Lights Modified Series presented by Real Wheels season.
Series officials thank Fairmont Raceway, Winneshiek Raceway, the competitors, fans and partners for their understanding and cooperation.
