Solander wire-to-wire in 81 Speedway's Dalice Franz Memorial

PARK CITY, Kan. (Sept. 19, 2026)—Reece Solander controlled every lap of Saturday night’s Pannell Chipping A Feature, leading the entire 30-lap distance to claim the USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels victory at 81 Speedway during the Dalice Franz Memorial.

Starting alongside polesitter Trevor Hughes, Solander took command at the outset and never relinquished the top spot. The win completed a perfect evening for Solander, who also earned the Deatherage Opticians Overall Quick Time Award and won the Rick Beebe Heating & Air Conditioning Heat Race 1.

Tanner Mullens advanced from sixth to finish second, tightening the championship battle with three races remaining. Tad Davis crossed the finish line third, while current points leader Tyler Davis placed fourth and rookie Cole Campbell completed the top five.

Mullens’ runner-up finish pulled him within 24 points of Tyler Davis entering the season-ending weekend. Hughes sits third, 68 points behind the leader, with Chevy Coleman fourth at 137 points back.

Troy Gemmill climbed from 16th to finish sixth, followed by Coleman, Henry Chambers, Dakota Dale and Dean Wille.

Coleman’s seventh-place finish came on the same evening that the HMT full-time competitor officially secured the 2026 81 Speedway Modified track championship. Saturday marked the final track-points race of the season for the Modified division at the historic Kansas oval.

The night also carried special significance with longtime 81 Speedway and NCRA Modified competitor Dan Powers announcing his retirement from racing. Powers was a fixture in the regional Modified ranks throughout a career closely connected to 81 Speedway and the NCRA, which sanctioned regional Modified racing from 1998 through 2022. He made nine Heartland Modified Tour starts during the series’ first three seasons, including Saturday night’s event.

A field of 30 competitors signed in for the tour’s 16th event of the season. Solander and Shadren Turner topped the two Deatherage Opticians qualifying groups, with Solander’s 17.697-second lap earning overall quick-time honors.

Solander won the Rick Beebe Heating & Air Conditioning opening heat, while Hughes captured the Smith Equipment Company Heat Race 2. Turner won the Kevko Racing third heat, and Chambers prevailed in the Swift Springs fourth heat. TJ Tolan won the Real Racing Wheels B Feature before Solander completed his sweep in the Pannell Chipping 30-lap main event.

The championship will be decided during the three-night 8th Annual Joe Duvall’s Funkadelic Dirt Track & Honky Tonk Extravaganza, beginning Friday, October 23, at Springfield Raceway. The tour then travels to Salina Highbanks Speedway on Saturday, October 24, before crowning its 2026 champion Sunday, October 25, at Arrowhead Speedway.
