A Smooth Flowing Night
It was an underdog race in the Southwest Late Models, and in the Bombers. Those two classes where joined by the USRA Street Stocks, Slime Mini Sprints, and the Barnett Harley Davidson USRA Western Modifieds.
Talk about a race! The Southwest Late Models put a show as it was Bryan Christie in 72c on the pole, with Cliff Hansen in 911 outside pole. At the green, Cliff Hansen took off! Cliff Hansen would lead, and did he bring his “A game” tonight! Could he hold on twenty laps though? Well with about five laps to go Bryan Christie who was staying strong in second had problems, and Rick Ortega, was closing the straightaway lead that Hansen had, along with Scott Logston! With two laps to go Rick Ortega would get around Cliff Hansen on the bottom! At the white flag Cliff Hansen would go side by side with Ortega! Javier Zapin Jr in his #3 machine would take it to the bottom as your leaders raced full throttle. Rick Ortega couldn't get around Javier Zapin Jr, and Cliff Hansen would win his first main event at the Southern New Mexico Speedway with a though field of cars!
Gary Mays who is trying to clinch the 2014 track championship in the Bombers, might of just sealed it tonight. Jason Gransbury in his #2EZ was making it look easy out there until the Mays brothers got to the front. It was Gary Mays leading, with Mikes right behind him. Gary Mays with an easy win, now just has to start in two weeks and he has the 2014 Bomber title.
In the Slime Mini Sprints, Jeremy Stamper would win his heat race, and now in the main he was leading by a whole straightaway. One thing drivers hate more is leading by a big gap, and a super late caution comes out. Patrick Carney who was driving the #22e would blew up. Well that would glue your field back together, and Jarred Warhurst would take the lead on the restart! Warhurst would win the Slime Mini Sprint main event win!
Back to back, for the #0 of Lloyd Turner. It was a fast easy race, for Turner as he jumped to lead, and was never seen again! He would lead by half a track. The only good battle on the track was the pair of Alamogordo cars for second. Jon McDaniel your 2014 El Paso Speedway Park track champion with Justin “Faster” Lasiter. Justin Lasiter would win the battle, and started to close the gap on Turner, but time wasn’t Lasiters friend. Lloyd Turner would win, and he dominated the USRA Street Stock main event.
All eyes were on Christy Georges, because she made the return to racing after being out of the car for three mouths, and she won her heat, and main at El Paso, now she comes to Las cruces. Well she had a good chance, she started fourth and came to third quickly. Her and Fito had a good battle for second, Christy would jump to second. Behind them two Terry Tipton, and Chad Falco had a good run going on until Chad got around him, and gave him a little quarter panel. Royal Jones would lead, with Georges, and Gallardo trying to get around. After five cautions, five restarts that Mesilla Valley Transportation #131 would stay strong to win the USRA Modified main event! Christy Georges would have a good second place, Fito Gallardo third, and Chad Falco fourth.
The season is just getting better! We return to Sprint car racing next weekend. So come on out to the Southern New Mexico Speedway for the return of the 305 rumble!
