2015 Season Opener

The fans kept the grandstands warm as they packed the stands for the 2015 Season Opener. The drivers also packed the pit area with 75 total cars checking in between all five classes combined. Between those 75 drivers one winner was Phillip Houston on the USRA Modifieds that thrashed to lap traffic to win the opening night!

Super Truck action took place in main event action, and it was the "Sherman Show". Sherman Barnett as you all know races a X-Mod, USRA Modified, Late Model, and a Super Truck. Well if you ever talk to Sherman his favorite class is the Super Trucks. That brand new skinned graphics by JDG number 82 would lead this main event with no trouble. Dave Deetz in that #01 ran second the the whole race trying to find a groove to catch Sherman Barnett, but Barnett stayed strong and led every fifteen laps of the main event to win the Super Truck season opener.

Robert Vega broke the leash in the USRA Street Stock main event. He would break away to a early half track lead. Robert Vega had a outstanding lead, the battle for second was the show to watch. Danny Rodriguez in A21, and Rudy Munoz would go side by side all night for that runner-up. A late caution would fly with three laps to go. Well that lead that Robert Vega had would now condense to just a car length lead. With a "Green, Green, White, Checker" Robert just took off once again, and would win the opening night in the USRA Street Stocks with no trouble in his path.

Welcome back Dylan Harris to Legend racing. Harris who is the 2009 Pro Legend Nationals champion and a main event winner in the "Race of Champions" in Legends picked up his 57th main event win in a Legend with no trouble at the end. Mike Zuloaga battled the 14 of Harris until his car started going away, later Robert Shepperd came into play and would battle Zuloaga. While they would battle Brady Labree would jump to second. Later a yellow would fly, and during that caution Brady Labree would head pit side. Mike Zuloaga would inherent second once again. At the green Dylan Harris would win with no trouble though in 2015 season opener after starting DEAD LAST!

Fito Gallardo makes his 2015 debut in Late Model action and he would start on the pole, with Jon Ortega to his outside! At the green all EIGHTEEN late models smashed the throttle. Well a caution would fly as Fito Gallardo spun right in front of everyone in the opening turns of the race. Sherman Barnett would smash Gallardos front nose, and caved in everything. Later Billy Roy Harris would lead, then DAVE DEETZ would battle for the lead. He would try the bottom, and the high. Dr. Dave Deetz would cut his way to the lead and would lead the way with eighteen laps to go. Well his car lost traction and started heading towards the back. Billy Roy Harris jumped back to the front. Later here comes Tucson, Arizona racer SEAN BRAY!! Sean would take the lead and show the way. Sean Bray broke away with a good lead until good old Scott Logston smelled the lead when we got closer to the front. Logston would upset Sean Bray and would get his best career Late Model finish (2nd). Scott Logston would win the 2015 Southwest Late Model season opener!

Twenty three USRA Modifieds checked in for battle and put on a show! The opening laps were all owned by Fito Gallardo until lap traffic came around. Gallardo is usually smooth with lap traffic, but Houston caught Gallardo quickly as the G17 couldn't get around traffic. Out of turn four Philip Houston put his rear bumper right in front of Fito to pull off a dare devil mean slide job! Philip Houston would lead and wouldn't let it go to the his second main event win in 2015! That MB Custom was flying around another well prepped El Paso Speedway Park.
