Blue Moon Racing at The Park

Get ready to go racin’ at the El Paso Speedway Park because 5 classes and 65 cars are set to take the track tonight! Super Trucks, Modifieds, Southwest Late Mod’s, Casa Nissan Legends, and USRA Street stocks have shown up to show down tonight. Bumpin’ and Bangin’ are guaranteed with your ticket stub so buckle up, sit back, and relax because here come the thunder!

Super Trucks will take to the speedway first tonight as 8 of these monsters roll out. The 44L of Ismael Garcia will take the lead for lap 1 and from that point on he is going going GONE! At lap 5 of 15 the 44L is up by a straight away over the 501 while the 82 and 92 battle hard for 3rd. We have CAUTION #1 on the evening as the 6 looses a bumper leaving debris in turn 3. The 44L drags us back to green but now its Sherman Barnett in 82 and the 501 of Jaime Bejerano on his bumper from row 2. One more lap complete before the 501 blows a right rear and to the pits he goes but we stay green flag racing. The Sherminator now has the 82 machine up to 2nd but he has a lot of work to do for the next 5 laps if he wants to even have a shot at the lead from Ismael. Sherman will push his truck to the limits but it’s going to be the 44L who will take the white flag leading by a full straight away. Somebody should have put a rope on the back of that 44L machine because tonight nobody could even breathe his fumes and he will lead flag to flag every inch of this race. The real action on the last lap comes from the 82 who will loose power in turn 1 and coast all the way around. Sherman Barnett luckily has enough momentum and power to make it to the checkered but not before he looses a huge gap over the third place car of Rusty Bowen who squeak’s into second while Walton Kyle Sr. in 6 also passes and finishes out third. Sherman Barnett will somehow hold it together for fourth but after a good run all night, that malfunction has to sting a little.

Casa Nissan Legends cars are up next and this race is sure to bring the fire It will be and all Esquivel top 3 start as the 85, 37A are on the front row with the Ak-47 inside row 2. The Ak-47 of Jesse Esquivel will be the Esquivel to beat tonight as he will swing to the lead early and boy oh boy is he looking strong! Only 3 laps in and Jesse is looking great but a big bobble into turn 3 and here comes Steven Rellano in the 237 with the 77 of Brady LaBree not to far back either. Arellano will sweep to the lead and lead the fourth lap for these legend cars. With 10 to go these drivers have kicked it up a notch but as the top 2 bounce around for the next 4 laps the 902 of Mike Zuloaga is there to make this a 3 way battle for the lead! 5 to go and the 77 has found his groove around the outside of turn 4 and to the lead he goes! The 77 will lead the whole lap but with 4 to go CAUTION! The cars bunch back together, track crews clear the debris, and we go back to green with Brady LaBree leading the best of them! The 77 will dart like a rocket on this restart but just as he crosses the line, turn 3 sees trouble! Three cars have gone around in turn three with three laps to go. With all these threes maybe we will have a little good luck and finish out these last three laps. The restart here goes great for all drivers and as the 77 takes the white flag, the 902 has finally cleared the 237 for second. The 902 will not have enough laps to get there and this race belongs to the 77 of Brady LaBree who was the man with a plan tonight!

Now, its time for some of the baddest beasts on dirt, IT IS Southwest Late Models time!! 18 of these warriors are ready to rumble and we are ready for 25 laps of adrenaline pumping, blood rushing action under the Blue Moon! The 3 will start on the pole but the 744 of Scott Logston was on absolute fire in his heat and is looking to sweep tonight as he starts outside row 4! Complete restart on this one as the 3 has bad luck spinning from the lead into turn 4. Everyone on the inside row will now move up so its the 22 of Jonathan Ortega who has the pole and Fito Gallardo inside row 2. They complete the first lap and it the 22 leading the G17 by just a nose but not for long as it’s the 29 of Mercedes Abercrombie having trouble down the backstretch. However, under caution we have an “after the fact” incident for Christy Georges-Barnett who has somehow mounted the turn 1 retaining wall with the rear of her car. The 5 will regain her spot because the caution wasn’t her fault and we go back to racing. The leaders are finally getting laps in and with 5 complete the 22 still leads the G17 but these two are absolutely gapping the field as the 357, 8x and 744 all go door to door for third! 8 laps in with 17 to and Fito will dolphin dive the bottom in turn 1 and to the lead he goes! The G17 is going to step and be going gone now with 15 to go but its Scott Logston all the way to 3rd after an incredible pass on the 8x of Ordunez. Fito might be absolutely dominating this race but Scott Logston is on a rail and coming hard from third. He has to deal with the 22 first but at this pace he is driving it like he stole it and that will be no problem. 12 to go and Gallardo is making this look easy even as he cuts through lappers. Scott Logston and Jonathan Ortega are going to get their miracle because before they complete that lap the 8x will spin around turn 4. This restart will most benefit the 744 as he was closing quickly on the 22 but would have been to far back to catch the G17. Fito Gallardo will restart in typical fashion but on par with the evening, Scott Logston is there to make this one fun! Logston looks to have a rope on the back of that G17 because he is not letting him get away an inch. Caution will wave again but the shocker isn’t the caution it is the fact that under caution the G17 is going to pull from the raceway!! News from the ground ccrew is that Fito Gallardo has a busted radiator and is done in this Late Models main event. However, since Fito has left the track, guess what that means! It means that SCOTT LOGSTON is in the LEAD!! 10 to go and its Logston leading the 22 around the park tonight. Caution waves with 9 to go as the 8x is sitting on the pole off turn 2. Logston is going to drag them back to green and you better believe he is going to drive it ill the wheels fall off! They race hard but Logston just has to much in the motor for the 22 tonight. Only 5 circuits remain when the 22 is going to get company from the 3K of Keko Perez but both of those cars in need of a miracle to get the win tonight. There will be no miracle for the 22 tonight and SCOTT LOGSTON in 744 is going to WIN this race with insane speed. Jonathan Ortega will hold off for second and Keko Perez will round it out in third. Scott Logston was in his usual cheery mood after the races and this is what he had to say about his crazy fast run tonight. “The track was absolutely crazy rough from the beginning, Once I got to the lead I just tried running the middle because I didn’t know I was faster than the guys behind me. After the race we had 2 weeks ago, I am absolutely fired up to come and get this win. I wish I could have had a better shot at Fito but those things happen to the best of us. I personally felt good in the car tonight and sweeping the heat and the main is always a good feeling. Onto tomorrow night we go.”

Little break from the speed but defiantly not from the action as the USRA Street Stocks are getting settled into the track for 20 laps. The 08 Mike Medina will lead the first lap after going 4 wide on the backstretch! The 74 of Jason Josselyn had made his way into the lead but before he crossed the line the caution waves and the 08 will get his lead back with only one lap complete. Todd Froats was sitting in third on that restart but after an attempt from Medina to block Josselyn on the outside, Froats will jump to the lead with pleasure and say adios boys! The 74 finally makes the pass on the 08 and doesn’t look to plan on waiting for long to make his move. Josselyn will clear the 08 and immediately go to work on the lead. Door to door into turn 3 and its Josselyn who will lead at the line! The 08 will fall off the map now as the 327 has moved into third with the 13 in fourth. 14 laps to go and the 13 Victor Colorbio is going to go top shelf all the way to second! The top 5 are still nose to tail but before they can complete the 8th lap caution is going to wave again. The 74 of Josselyn leads the top five of 13, L750, 327 and 44x back to the green with 12 to go. They run consistent but 11 laps remain and the 13 dives under the 74 in turn 2 and down the back they bang around but its still the 74 at the line leading the field by a nose! Next time by it’s the 13 getting a drive off turn 4 and rocketing to the lead before crossing the stripe. George LaRose in 44x is up to third now. Down to 7 laps remaining on the ticker when the 327 is going to loose his entire right rear. From this restart on its going to be the Victor show in 13 as with 5 to go he has taken Jason Josselyn and George LaRose to school. Only 3 circuits remain when LaRose finally clears the 74 but not enough time left in this one. It will be Victor Colorbio in the green 13 machine who takes home the USRA Street Stock Main Event Win! The 44x holds onto second and the 74 isn’t far back in third.

The modifieds are going to grace us with 25 laps tonight as 15 of these Dirt Devils prepare to get down. The 44 of Christy Georges-Barnett will start on the pole but it is 07 Fireball Donovan Flores who is going to jump the lead on this one take lap 1 for himself! Flores is pulling away but the 44 has some company now and the 49 is knocking on her door! Georges will bounce through turn 1 and that car is going to be toasted in the front end. Just as the 44 pulls from the racing surface, we have a caution with 17 to go. The Gallardo clan is up to 3rd and 4th while freight training the field. They had their sights on the 49 of Duane Murphy who now inherits second from Christy. 15 to go and Flores is going to lead the G17 by 8 lengths but Fireball better not get complacent yet because Fito isn’t know for giving up! Unluckily for Flores, Caution will wave for debris in turn 2 and Fito is going to get right on the bumper of the 07 now. 13 to go and Flores is looking for win #2 in the Modifieds this season. 10 to go and the 07 and G17 are absolutely gone from this field! Fito will start to slip back out of striking distance but into turn 3 with 6 to go, Flores will over shoot the outside cushion and he goes a little high! Fito is smooth as butter jumps on Flores’ mistake and takes the lead with the blink of an eye!! Flores will recover but not close enough. WE switch the roles from earlier as Fito wont get a straight shot tonight because with 3 to caution waves again in this main and Flores is looking hungry. Flores will make contact a few times on the first lap after the restart but only 2 circuits remain at the line and the top 2 are in another country right now! Fito Gallardo is going to hold off Donovan Flores’s last lap charge, and tonight it is all the Fito Gallardo show in G17!! Fireball Donovan Flores with the 1 mistake tonight but he still cant be too upset with that great second place run. Duane Murphy finishes out the podium in the 49 machine.

Fito was signing autographs and taking pictures after the race but even as tired as he was his sprits where high and his usual grin reached from ear to ear. This is what he had to say abut his run.

“We set the car up to run in the rough because after the heats I knew it was going to be really rough. I didn’t know how rough though, because tonight was the roughest I have ever driven this race track. After racing in the Late Model Race up front, and then all those laps in the modifieds, I was very tired at the end. I could feel my smoothness slipping away and just really had to focus hard.”
