McCutcheon Locks up Pole for Saturday’s 5,000$ to Win Spring Fling

Its 2016 and this is the first night of the second Annual Casa Nissan Legends 5,000$-to-win Spring Fling at Western Tech Speedway Park!! Tonight is gonna be hot as the top 4 Legend cars will transfer directly to the 5,0004 to win on Saturday night!! The Xmods, and Southwest Late Models will both take the track tonight as well. Its go time!

It’s the first race of the season for the Xmods and they are rearing to roll. It’ll be 20 laps for 13 Xmods with the 08 starting on the pole. The 2 would get to work early and pull ahead on the opening circuit but it wouldn’t matter because its caution #1 after just one lap. Third try on the restart and the 2 would dart away again. The 2 would lead the first five nd pull but it was the battle for second keeping the people on their feet. The 3H of Hollingshead was mounting a charge on the 47 Jauregui and both where pulling in thet leader as they battled back and forth. It would be 8 laps in when they caught the leader but couldn’t make anything stick down low just yet. With 10 down and 10 laps left on the ticker and the 47 would make a charge for the lead down low into turn 3!! A little traction out of 4 and he was not to be denied the lead. Hollingshead would also scoot by before they crossed the stripe and the 47 and 3H would make it a two way batlle for the lead with 9 to go. The 52 of The Horizon City Monster Paddy Rush has been there on the 2 for a couple laps but cant make it stick just yet. Only 5 left we would see the 52 get around the 2 and try and make a run for the leaders who had pulled ahead a good few lengths. The 52 looked to make it interesting with 3 to go but had to deal with the 7C and faded back to leave the 47 and 3H to duke it out for the last 2 laps. White flag flew and the 3H had a chance to set it up inside into two but didn’t take it. The 3H dove it in into turn 3 but slipping a little and at the checkered it was the 47 of Mingo Jauregui holding on for win #1 on the season!! Great finish for Noah Hollingshead in his first ever Xmod race as he brings it home in second.

The Southwest Late models are some of the baddest beasts on dirt and tonight it was 17 of them going toe-to-toe for 20 laps. The 24x of Xavier Ortega would lead the first 4 laps by himself but the husband and wife pair of Sherman #82 and Christie Barnett #44 would not be denied the top 2 positions for long. It would only take 5 laps for the 44 to clear the 82 and charging down the 24x who was trying to pull into his own zipcode. The 44 of Christie on a rail and making quick work of the 24x because 12 to go she would slide right around Ortega and into the lead to never look back. She would pull away quickly, like she had a whole other gear than the rest of the field, but it wouldn’t matter because the caution would fly for the G17 spinning in turn 4. The G17 was charging hard from the rear. Clean restart and Christie would show the field the tail end as she drove way out, leaving the 24x in trouble with the 22 of Jonathan Ortega. The 24x would hold off the 22 but neither would have a chance at the 44 because as the white flag flew she was over a full straight away ahead. Christie Georges Barnett cruising that 44 machine over the line at the checkered and having no mercy on the field for the win! The 24x of Xavier holds off the 22 of Jonathan as they finish second and third.

This is what you came for. This is why you stay! It’s the Casa Nissan Legend cars Night 1 of the 2016 Spring Fling!!! The top 4 from this race will transfer automatically into the 5,000$ to win on Saturday night!! It’s a full field tonight as all 27 cars that showed up will run in the A-Main feature! Its 25 laps an the 237 of Esquivel starts a stacked field behind him. The 37r of Dusty Riggs with a dig on the start and to the lead around the outside of turn 2!!! The 37r would leap lap 1 but no more than that in this run because caution #1 would fly in this caution filled main. The 37r would lead the 9x of Irwin who his making his dirt track debut coming from the asphalt legends. The 13k of Wildman Kyle McCutcheon already nto he top 6 with 20 to go. Just as the 13K is making moves its trouble turn 3 for him and the7 of Louis Esquivel. Both do a 360 but keep it running and there is no caution. After that spin the 13 would loose power down the backstretch and the yellow would come out for the second time. Quick restart after they get that car fired but turn two would have big trouble as the 11 of Brady LaBree would get spun and then hit hard by the Ak-47 who had no where to go. Hard hit there but everyone would be ok and we went back racing. Dusty Riggs takes us back to green for 18 more laps with the 9x right there to play. The 9x would have a much better start and it would be him going to the lead this time up high around turn 2. The 54 of Cj Hulsey would scoot to the front and make it three wide out of turn 4 for the lead with 17 to go! Hulsey grabbed the lead on that one and the 37r slipping back. Half way home and the three way battle for second would real back the 54 and make it 4 way for the lead. The 37r would spin from 4th and fall ay back in the pack but no yellow as he drove it through the infield. The 54 is barely leading Dylan Harris in the 902 at the line but things aren’t over yet! Only 10 to go and its Caution once again for the legends. Cj Hulsey drags us back to the green but it’s a 4 wide battle for fourth!! After going all the way to the back its Kyle McCutcheon going full wild man and sliding that 13k into 4th!! Its still 6 circuits left when the 902 would go by the 54 down the back and take the lead! With 5 circuits remaining it would be a three way battle for the lead as the 13k looking low on the 902 into turn 3! The 902 doesn’t lift the throttle and around he goes all alone but a smack from the 13k on the way by does the trick and the yellow comes out. The 902 Harris will go the the rear and it’s the 54 Hulsey leading us to the green one more time with 5 to go. The 13k is sitting second now after that close call and he will start highside row 2 on this one. The 13K would bide his time and 3 to go he shoots low down the back!! # to go and Wildman takes the lead. McCutcheon would take it to the highside with the field chasing and would never look back! Last lap as smooth as butter and at the checkered, it’s the Wildman Kyle McCutcheon going from last to first and winning night 1 of the 2016 Casa Nissan Legends Spring Fling at Western Tech Speedway Park!! The 13k locks into the pole for Saturday night and has tomorrow off. Joining him on the first 4 inside rows on Saturday night will be the 54 of Cj Hulsey, the 9x of Irwin, and the 24.

Kyle McCutcheon is a happy dude most days but after that awesome finish tonight you could see the smile under that iconic red beard from a mile away. Kyle had a lot to say about the car and track tonight and all of it good.

How was the car?
It was a rocket ship plain and simple. That’s the most aggressive ive ever driven this little car and I loved every minute of it. Got a little flustered when I got spun but the guys calmed me down and I just drove it in hard. That was so much fun.

You have been racing the sprint cars. How does that compare?
Oh man, this is way harder. The sprint car feels like a Cadillac compared to this thing but its just the style of car. It was crazy fast tonight. The track was near perfect for these cars. I could run low if I needed to and it just kept chugging. I’m ready for Saturday no doubt.

If you missed Kyle put on a show tonight then don’t miss emm go back at it again tomorrow and Saturday night!! Gates open at 5:30 and racing starts at 7:45. It’ll be rowdy as always so don’t be late!
