Grable grabs first win at Western Tech Speedway Park in 2016

Photo by Don Grable won the Border International 305 Winged Sprint Car feature.

Its 305 Border International Truck Winged Sprint cars night at Western Tech Speedway Park and what a show it was! The 305’s where joined by the Super trucks, Jack Key Nissan Xmods, Sun Valley Hardware Street Stocks and the Shaw trucking Southwest Late models. A little rain during the early heat race would add a lot of moisture to a track that had already been drowned during the day. Luckily the storm subsided and the track was rolled back into prime condition.

The Super Trucks would be up first tonight and with only 5 cars it would be only 12 laps for these dirt devils. The 01 of Deetz would take the lead early in this one from the 98 of Bowen but the 44 of Barnett and the 501 of Bejerano where not far behind. The 501 of Jaime Bejerano would wait patiently for 1 lap and shoot to the lead into turn 3! The 44 of Christie Barnett not wasting anytime either and she drops low to dart into second right behind the 501. With 3 in the 44 is charging hard and definitely pushing the limit. The 44 would go up and over turn 1 and into the fence pretty hard. Short yellow as the 44 pulled it off the wall and we went back racing as she rejoined the tail end. The 01 of Deetz would get second back with that spill but it wouldn’t be long before the 44 was right back on him. In one lap the 501 had checked out just enough but the 44 had cut through the pack and was already into third with 8 to. As Jaime Bejerano pulled away the 44 made very quick work of the 01. Christie headed straight for the bumper of the 501 and was pulling him in but as the checkered flag flew the 501 of Jaime Bejerano would drag race her to the finish and keep his well-earned win. The 44 of Christie Barnett holds onto a solid second tonight after that nasty spin early on.

Jaime Bejerano won the Super Truck feature.

Sun Valley Hardware USRA Street Stocks where next on the track tonight and a smaller count in this one would again leave only 12 laps t be run but a ton of action to be had before this one was over. The 44JT of Jaime Torres would waste absolutely no time in this one as he immediately went to work on the 29 of Ted Cain and the 00Et of Ed Engel. The 00ET holding on to lead lap one but as the top 3 dove it off into turn 1, the 44JT took it three wide and never looked back! Torres threading the needle on that one and reaping the benefits greatly. After 3 full laps the 44JT was pulling out over the field but the current points leader, 74 of Jason Josselyn, was into second around the 29 and looking to close in. The next 7 laps would be an on the gas hard charge from Josselyn and as the white flag flew he was basically riding the bumper of Torres just waiting for the perfect chance. The 74 would give it a last lap ditch effort from second but it wouldn’t stick tonight and as the checkered flew it was Jaime Torres in 44Jt getting right back on top of the box in first. Jason Josselyn with second tonight but not for lack of trying as he closed a full straight gap to be right on the 44JT at the end. The 29 of Ted Cain holds onto a solid third in this fast class.  Shaw trucking Southwest Late models with a bigger car count tonight and running 20 laps for all the money. After an incident in turn 1 on lap 1 the field would complete restart this time with the 44 of Barnett on the pole. The 44 wasted no time with this given opportunity and leads lap 1 cleanly. The 44 would have to hold off the G17 for the next 7 laps as Fito Gallardo used the entire track to try and find what worked for him. A caution would fly with 13 to go and the G17 if Fito and J17 of Jake Gallardo are both there tonight. The J17 with a good jump on the restart and working on the 44 quickly! J17 low out of turn 2 and it’s a drag race into turn 3! Only 10 laps to go and the J17 into the lead and looking to check out! The J17 would pull from the 44 and the 44 pulling from the G17 as the laps ticked down in this one. The J17 of Jake Gallardo never looked back over his shoulder after taking the lead and wins this one in style. The 44 of Christie Barnett held onto a solid second tonight back on the podium. The G17 Fito Gallardo rounds out the top 3 with a solid performance.

A big car count in the Xmods would also give them 20 laps and man was it a good one all the way to the end. The 38 of Hector Prigione would lead early and look to make it an easy night for himself, as he pulled from the field in unusual fashion. The 07 of Donovan Flores wasn’t gonna let the 38 check out just yet though because down the backstretch after 3 laps the 07 drag races into three and steals the second spot away. It would only take Flores 2 more laps to get the job done as he would go low in turn 4 and shoot right underneath the 38 for the lead at the line! Donovan Flores bringing the heat tonight with 15 to go. Flores would pull away slightly in the next five laps but the 9 of Jimmy Ray was working his way into second and not going to stop there. With 9 to go this race would take a drastic turn with its first yellow as the 38 hopped a lapped car from third and doing half a barrel roll in the air! Ector Prigione would land on the down slope backside of turn 3 and luckily the car flattened out and only spun into the barrier instead of cartwheeling there. The 07 giving up a huge lead in this one because of that yellow but back to green as Fireball Flores fires it up for 9 more rounds! Jammin Jimmy Ray would be all over the 07 but 6 to go and nothing had stuck yet. The 2 of Jesse Haney closing as well in third. The 9 would go high through 3 and 4 and this time the drive would come alive! The 9 beating the 07 to the line by no more than a nose. Only 4 left for Flores to get Jimmy Ray back but it would be too little too late, as Jammin Jimmy Ray would pull away. As the checkered flew Jimmy Ray in 9 took the win in the Xmods after taking the lead with only 4 to go. Donovan Flores giving up a good win tonight but sticking to his guns and finishing second. The 7c of John Carney sr coming home third after the 2 of Haney had to pull off with issues.

You know what time it is? Its 305 time!! Border International Truck 305 winged sprint cars have not been on this track in far too long because of some rain but tonight will be the night of redemption as they go 25 laps of high flying, wing bangin action. The 22 of Justin Lassiter would leap lap 1 and start to make it look like he was driving a Cadillac early in this one. The 40x of Don Grable was into second after 2 laps but not catching the 22 just yet. After 5 laps the 22 still had a good lead over the 40x but they where grabbing gears and getting after it up high with 19 still on the board. With 17 to go the 22 would have to give up a big lead as the 77B of Bray LaBree drove straight over turn 2 and into the wall hard! Track would go red flag after that monster hit but Brady was ok and we went back racing. Justin Lassiter taking us back green with 40x of Grable right on him and the 27 of Fuentes right there as well. Current points leader Lorne Wofford into 4th. One more lap would be complete and the 6 of Carney would go around in turn 3. Still 17 to go but this time the restart would be a little different. The 40x going low as soon as the green flag waves and its Donkey Don Grable into the lead!! The 27 Cesar Fuentes and 18 Wofford also gonna go both by Lassiter as he looks to have a problem. The 27 working on the 40x but here comes Lorne! The 18 into second but the 27 back by out of turn 2! It’s a dogfight to the line each time and somebody different has won each lap! Those two drivers swapping positions more times than one person can count but finally the 27 coming away with a slight advantage down low and the 18 falls into third to wait for another chance. Both drivers right on the 40x still as the top 3 are all bunched within a car length. Still 14 laps to go and the 18 lips just a little allowing the top 2 to pull away. The 12 of Mossier all over the 18 now for third but Wofford holds onto it just enough and heads right back to the leaders. With 8 to go the 27 still not able to find a line around the 40x as they battle hard but the 18 standing on the gas around the outside to get back to them. Only 5 to go after a hard 20-lap run and the 40x still leading but Cesar Fuentes is working him hard and the 18 of Wofford almost back into the mix. Down to 4 to go and the 18 closed the gap back up but Lorne Wofford with trouble as he comes out of 4! Gets it off of the track but his night is done. The leaders are way out but now Mossier in 12 is third! Great battle for fourth between the 222 and 20z as Rick Ziehl works his way in there. Lassiter with a definite problem now and the 19 of Wes Wofford is gonna give him a hard charge down to the end. Up front though the last 3 laps would have Cesar Fuentes laying it all on the line but not being able to get it done tonight. It’s “Donkey” Don Grable taking his first win this year at the park! Cesar Fuentes driving as hard as he could tonight but nothing would stick and second will do. The 12 of Mossier a clean second and after a tough battle the 20z of Rick Ziehl fightin his way into 4th. At the line Justin Lassiter would fall to Wes Wofford who finishes out the top 5.

Some great racing tonight and if you missed it then we suggest you don’t make the same mistake 2 weekends in a row! Racing starts at 7:45 but gates open at 5:30 so don’t be late and make sure to bring your friends!!
