Ziehl gets in the Zone

Only 2 races left EVER at Western Tech Speedway Park and it was set to be a good one. The last regular 305 race at the historic park with a full field things where set to be interesting. The USRA Sun Valley Hardware Street Stocks, Casa Nissan Xmods, Super trucks, and Southwest Shaw Trucking Late Models put on some stacked action tonight as well.

The Late Models took to the speedway first and it wouldn’t take long till the J17 Jake Gallardo show got underway. Jake would take the lead on lap 2 and never look back. The 22 of was there for the first few laps but Jonathan Ortega not able to run the speed of Jake tonight and he would be left to duel it out with the G17 of Fito Gallardo. A few cautions and red flag would keep things interesting but the never change. The Ja7 would be half a track ahead as the white flag dropped but the G17 would finally find the lane way back for second! The Gallardo’s going one and two tonight with the 22 of Jonathan Ortega rounding out the top 3.

Peter Piper Pizza Super trucks with a shot to tame the tricky track now and the 98 of Rusty Bowen would shoot away on lap 1. Big trouble in turn 4 on lap 1 though as the 21k of Don Klein spins it around up front all by himself and the 5 driving right under him! Long red as we got those straightened out. The 44 would now lead and that would be the end of it as only 4 trucks could continue. Christy Barnett held the lead for the next 10 laps and the field didn’t stand a chance. The 98 of Bowen would sit in second for a while with the 501 of Jaime Bejerano right on him. Bejerano with a great dive as the laps cut down and second was his. It wouldn’t matter though because as the checkered waved it was once again the 44 of Christy Georges Barnett taking the win. The 501 was second and the 98 Rusty Bowen settling for third.

USRA Sun Valley Hardware Street Stocks with possibly the rest race of the season so far. The 44Jt of Jaime Torres was offered 100 dollars to go to the back and win the race and he accepted in an instant after running a fantastic heat race. It wouldn’t come easy for the 44Jt though as the 74 of Jason Josselyn had plans of his own. The 74 would lead lap 1 and start to pull away as the 777 of Mike Rosales was cutting his way though the pack. The 13 of Victor Colorbio would be there as well to go toe to toe with Josselyn. It would only take Jaime Torres 5 laps to get his 44Jt into top 5 contention and things were speeding up. Only 7 laps in the 44Jt and 777 would battle for the top 4 inside and outside. The 44Jt would clear him with 13 to go and the 13 of Colorbio would be the next target. Jaime Torres would cut around the 13 like a man on a mission and Jason Josselyn was not far out of reach. Jaime Torres would waste only 3 laps with the 74 and a slider in 1 would put him in the lead! Into turn 3 Josselyn trying to get him back but Jaime Torres has it covered! From last to first 14 laps! Torres moving and grooving to lead that lap but up and over turn 1!! Torres getting ahead of himself there and just threw the whole thing away with 6 to go. The 74 would once again lead the field back to green. Jason Josselyn looking super strong tonight as he fights with the 13 of Colorbio and the 777 of Rosales. Jaime Torres to the back of the pack again but this time only 6 to do it. With 4 to go Jaime Torres was back in the groove and headed straight to the front! Nobody stood a chance as Torres drove it to the lead. This time the yellow would come out for the 74 and 13 getting together in turn 1! The 74 slamming into the 13 hard and Colorbio going up and over to the wall. Both go to the rear and we resumed. The last 3 laps would have the 44Jt leading the 777 around and around until the checkered flag. Winning an extra 200 Dollars for going to the back twice tonight and still wining, it was 44JT of Jaime Torres!! Mike Rosales back in the car for the first time in a long time and second is his.

Jack Key Nissan Xmods chomping at the bit to get raging tonight and it wasn’t long before things got hot. The 44 of Christy Barnett was back to the front on lap 1 after starting on the pole and she would almost run away with it but a little late trouble would keep that from happening. The 9 of Jammin Jimmy Ray was on a mission the whole race and never to be denied Christy had her hands full half way through this one. Christy proved she had the skills to pay the bills as she fought off numerous charges from the field but a bobble with 4 to go would mean that Jimmy Ray had an open door to the front. If you leave a door open for Jimmy Ray he will step on through and that exactly what he did. After a hard charge and numerous battle the 9 of Jammin Jimmy Ray would steal the win away tonight. The 7c of John Carney Sr. was there all night as well and moving it into second on the closing laps would give him a good finish tonight. The 44 of Christy Barnett with a tough third place tonight after being super strong early on.

It’s SPRINT CAR TIME!! Only 1 more race left at Western Tech after this one and it was an easy call as Rick Ziehl pulled one out of the hat. The real deal Rick Ziehl started on the pole tonight and he would never once leave that position! There was plenty of rustling going on through out the field behind him but none of it mattered to Rick as he sailed to victory. The 19 of Wes Wofford would hold onto the second spot for quite awhile in this one but the 40x of Don Grabble was a dig from the bottom and not to be stopped. The 40x of Don Grabble would move his way into second and run right on Ziehl for many laps. Grabble all over the bottom trying to make it stick on Ziehl but Rick Ziehl so absolutely strong every single lap that Grabble never able to put the slider down. With 20 complete and 5 o go the 48 of Shawn Sander with a big move into third around the 18 of Lorne Wofford who also came all the way from 21st into the top 5! Sander though on a mission and running out of time. Rick Ziehl was too far ahead to loos this one but on the last lap, with the pass for the points, Shawn Sander laying down the rubber and stealing the second spot away from the 40x! Rick Ziehl laid down the law tonight but the action came from Shawn Sander who finished second. The 40x of Don Grabble rounds out the top 3.

If you missed tonight then you missed a good one. Only 1 more chance EVER to watch cars go around at the Western Tech Speedway Park and you better not miss it! It will be one of the craziest shows that this park has ever seen! Join us for the Last lap at the Park next Friday night to celebrate all the great years we have had at this amazing speedway! Gates open at 5 with racing at 7:45. It will be packed so show up early!
